After taking the lead from Lando Norris, Piastri's race was transformed when contact with Carlos Sainz cost him time while navigating traffic. The stewards held Sainz responsible and handed the Williams driver a five-second penalty. An angry Piastri then lashed out over team radio before eventually retiring from second with a suspected gearbox failure. Andrea Stella says Piastri clarified after the race that his comments were made in anger and insists there is no internal problem — but what did the radio reveal about the pressure inside McLaren? ⚠️ McLAREN REFUSE NORRIS The Papaya Rules were back. Norris requested to pit before Piastri, but McLaren refused. Stella explained that Piastri had fairly earned the lead and deserved the first opportunity to protect it when Hamilton threatened an undercut. Norris ultimately stayed out, stopped later and emerged just ahead of Piastri before going on to win. Was McLaren's decision fair — or are the Papaya Rules becoming too complicated? 🔥 VERSTAPPEN'S WILD STRATEGY Even Ferrari couldn't believe what Red Bull pulled off with Max Verstappen. Red Bull put Verstappen onto scrubbed softs on Lap 41 and then kept him out during the late Virtual Safety Car, leaving him to complete a huge 29-lap final stint. It worked. Verstappen took an unlikely P2, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth. Fred Vasseur admitted Ferrari had expected the soft tyre to last roughly half as long as Verstappen ultimately managed. 🐂 RED BULL 2027 DRIVER HINT Isack Hadjar's Red Bull future is looking increasingly strong. Laurent Mekies praised Hadjar after his seventh consecutive top-six finish and described having a strong second driver as good news for both Red Bull and Verstappen. No 2027 decision has been formally announced, but Mekies said Red Bull will make a “logical decision” after describing Hadjar's performance as excellent.
