The Mercedes driver charged through the field, fought Russell for the lead and completed one of the biggest drives of F1 2026. Seven wins this season. A home victory. Ferrari’s Italian GP started with Lewis Hamilton attacking Charles Leclerc into the opening chicane. Hamilton was forced wide and dropped down the order, before Leclerc’s race ended spectacularly on Lap 2 when he crashed heavily at Parabolica and triggered a red flag. Leclerc later admitted the battle with Hamilton had been “way too close” and said Ferrari will investigate the strange feeling he experienced before the crash. Hamilton recovered to P6 — but after all the hype, Ferrari leave Monza without a podium. ⭐ RUSSELL LOSES OUT — TITLE GAP GROWS George Russell led after the restart and looked capable of turning Antonelli’s grid penalty into a huge championship opportunity. Instead, Kimi fought his way back into contention and ultimately beat his teammate to victory. Russell finished P2, but Antonelli’s win means the championship gap has grown to 66 points. Is Mercedes now reaching the point where even Russell needs a miracle to stop Kimi? 🐂 VERSTAPPEN DENIES McLAREN Max Verstappen completed the podium in P3 as Red Bull beat both McLarens on race day. Lando Norris finished fourth with Oscar Piastri fifth, while shock polesitter Pierre Gasly could only finish seventh after leading the field away.
