After Ferrari brought a new engine specification, front wing changes and test items in Austria, the Mercedes boss questioned how Maranello can keep spending so aggressively under the F1 cost cap. Wolff says Mercedes cannot bring that level of development, and suggested Ferrari may eventually run out of room. That is a serious paddock warning. FERRARI DEVELOPMENT WAR Ferrari have pushed hard since Miami and Barcelona, with aero changes, wing developments and now engine work under the ADUO system. Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren are all upgrading too, but Wolff clearly believes Ferrari’s pace of development looks different. If Ferrari keep finding performance, this could become one of the biggest technical stories of the 2026 F1 season. ANTONELLI ANGER Kimi Antonelli also has frustration after Austria. The Mercedes rookie lost ground to George Russell in the championship fight after Russell won the Austrian GP, and David Coulthard has now shared what an angry Antonelli told him off-camera. Mercedes may be winning, but the internal pressure between Antonelli and Russell is getting sharper. PIASTRI AUDI RUMOUR The F1 Driver Market has another twist. Mark Webber is reportedly in talks with Audi over a potential Oscar Piastri deal, with Piastri’s McLaren future still being questioned amid Verstappen rumours. If Audi are serious, this could put pressure on Nico Hulkenberg’s seat and give Piastri a major long-term manufacturer option. SAINZ WILLIAMS WARNING Carlos Sainz has admitted Williams do not currently have the reliability or pace to score points. That is brutal honesty from a driver who expected more from the project. Williams will reveal a special British GP livery at Silverstone, but Sainz needs performance more than paint.
