The Max Verstappen story has taken another wild turn. After weeks of Mercedes talk, reports now claim Verstappen has been linked with early McLaren discussions, with Oscar Piastri potentially going the other way. If there is any truth in it, this would be one of the biggest driver market shocks in modern F1. RUSSELL SHUTS THE DOOR George Russell is having none of the Verstappen-to-Mercedes noise. Russell has insisted he will be at Mercedes next year, which could shut down one major route out of Red Bull for Verstappen. That makes the McLaren rumour even more explosive, because if Mercedes are not the obvious escape path, where does Max go? MERCEDES DIFFUSER ROW Mercedes have been forced to tweak their diffuser after rival complaints. Ferrari and other teams questioned the W17’s rear design, and the FIA has now closed the door on the more extreme version of that idea from Austria onwards. That is a major technical twist in a title fight where tiny aero details could decide everything. RED BULL EXIT BLOW Red Bull could also be losing another key figure. Paul Monaghan, Red Bull’s long-serving chief engineer, is reportedly set to leave the team and join Cadillac in a senior engineering role. With Adrian Newey already gone and Red Bull fighting to keep Verstappen happy, this is another worrying sign. AUSTRIA FP1 AND FP2 REACTION We also round up the action from Austrian GP FP1 and FP2. Kimi Antonelli looked seriously strong across Friday, Mercedes showed speed at the Red Bull Ring, and Verstappen and Norris both had issues to manage. Austria may already be telling us who has the pace, who has the problems, and who is under pressure before qualifying. This is F1 news, Max Verstappen McLaren rumours, Oscar Piastri Red Bull talk, George Russell Mercedes reaction, Mercedes diffuser controversy, Red Bull staff exit drama and full Austrian GP FP1 and FP2 analysis.
