After weeks of Max Verstappen Mercedes rumours, Red Bull have reportedly made a contract adjustment that stops a 2027 Mercedes move. That means Verstappen is now expected to stay at Red Bull, while Mercedes keep George Russell alongside Kimi Antonelli. This is a huge driver market twist. RUSSELL STAYS AT MERCEDES George Russell’s Mercedes contract extension has reportedly been triggered for 2027. That matters because Russell has been under pressure from the Verstappen links and Antonelli’s rise, but Mercedes now look ready to hold their current line-up. If Russell stays, the Verstappen door closes and the whole 2027 market has to reset. MERCEDES ENGINE FIXES Mercedes are bringing engine fixes to Austria after Kimi Antonelli’s Barcelona retirement. Antonelli will run a new power unit and updated battery pack, with software updates and hardware tweaks aimed at solving recent reliability problems. Mercedes still have pace, but reliability could decide the title fight. FIA MERCEDES DESIGN ROW Ferrari have also raised questions over a Mercedes design, and the FIA could now act at the Austrian GP. If Mercedes lose a design advantage while Ferrari and Red Bull push upgrades, Austria could become a major technical battleground. GASLY TROPHY FINALLY ARRIVES Pierre Gasly has finally received his Monaco GP trophy after Alpine successfully overturned his penalties. But the result is still not fully settled, with Red Bull and McLaren protesting the decision after losing out from the ruling. AUSTRIAN GP PREVIEW Now attention turns to Austria. Red Bull bring an important home upgrade, Mercedes bring engine fixes, Ferrari arrive with Hamilton momentum, and the Red Bull Ring could shake up the title fight.
