Former F1 driver Christian Danner believes Verstappen’s aggressive inputs may be making Red Bull’s instability worse. The theory is that sudden direction changes do not give the car enough time to settle, potentially contributing to Max’s spins and lost confidence. No official finding says Verstappen caused the problem, and the FIA is still examining the car’s aerodynamic behaviour. ZAK BROWN’S PIASTRI MASTERSTROKE A reported clause in Oscar Piastri’s contract could reveal just how long Zak Brown has been planning for a future Verstappen move. Piastri reportedly controls his own 2026 exit option, but McLaren may hold a team-controlled break clause from 2027. Brown also contacted Verstappen’s manager while negotiating Piastri’s extension, raising the possibility that McLaren structured the deal to create flexibility if Max became available. If the timeline points towards 2028, Piastri may eventually have to choose between staying, joining Red Bull or becoming the centrepiece of Audi’s project. HAMILTON PROVES HIS POINT Lewis Hamilton has defended his decision to step away from Ferrari’s simulator after finding poor correlation between the virtual car and the SF-26. At Silverstone, Hamilton and his engineers rejected the simulator’s direction and followed his own set-up philosophy. Leclerc initially went another way before moving towards Hamilton’s approach — then won the British Grand Prix. Hamilton believes that result validates his technical direction. ASTON MARTIN’S HUGE UPGRADE Aston Martin are preparing a comprehensive AMR26 package for Hungary, including weight reduction, a new nose, major aerodynamic changes and revised rear suspension. Pedro de la Rosa says the team is only beginning to unlock the car’s full potential. The package could be a major step, but Aston Martin will not promise a specific lap-time gain before it reaches the track. NEWEY WANTS ALONSO TO STAY Adrian Newey hopes the upgrade will give Fernando Alonso a faster, more predictable car and persuade him to remain beyond 2026. Newey believes better tools and stronger internal processes can transform the project.
