Toto Wolff has reportedly made an offer to Max Verstappen for 2027, and that is the story Red Bull cannot ignore. Because even if this is only an opening move, Mercedes have now tested the Verstappen situation. And once Mercedes open that door, everything around Max, Red Bull, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli changes. RED BULL PANIC? This is where the story gets bigger. Red Bull are reportedly trying to stop Verstappen from triggering his exit clause with a major financial offer. That matters because teams do not throw huge money at a driver to remove an exit route unless they believe the threat is real. If Max is not fully convinced Red Bull can give him a title-winning car, Mercedes suddenly become the danger. THE SIX-YEAR CONTRACT PUSH Red Bull are also linked with an attempt to secure Verstappen on a six-year extension through to the end of 2032. That is not a normal contract story. That is Red Bull trying to shut down the driver market before it opens properly. But would Verstappen really commit that far ahead when Mercedes are dominant, Ferrari are waking up with Lewis Hamilton, and Red Bull still have major question marks? RUSSELL FIA HEARING Mercedes also have a Right of Review hearing over George Russell’s Monaco GP penalty. This matters because Russell lost serious ground after the Monaco pitlane timing mess, and Mercedes are still fighting to claw something back. With Verstappen rumours growing, Russell needs every point, every result and every sign of team support he can get. PIASTRI SEARCHES FOR ANSWERS Oscar Piastri is searching for answers after a bizarre McLaren struggle in Barcelona. He was nowhere near Lando Norris on race pace, and McLaren need to understand why one side of the garage looked so far away. If Ferrari and Mercedes are moving forward, McLaren cannot afford mystery weekends. ROSBERG WRONG ON HAMILTON? Nico Rosberg has already admitted he may have been wrong about Lewis Hamilton’s level at Ferrari. Hamilton’s Barcelona win has changed the conversation. Ferrari now look alive, Hamilton looks dangerous, and the F1 title picture suddenly feels far less comfortable for Mercedes and Red Bull.
