The two champions went wheel-to-wheel at the Red Bull Ring, with Hamilton defending hard and Verstappen eventually fighting back on his way to P2. Juan Pablo Montoya believes Hamilton showed he does not forget the history between them. That makes this more than one battle. It feels like the rivalry still has fire. Ferrari had raised questions about Mercedes’ rear diffuser, but Russell’s victory came after the diffuser tweak, which weakens the idea that Mercedes’ big secret was only in that design. Mercedes still had race-winning pace. That is the worry for Ferrari. ASTON MARTIN CRISIS Adrian Newey has now lifted the lid on Aston Martin’s 2026 problems. Newey has described deeper structural issues behind the team’s disaster, with Aston Martin still needing major changes to become competitive. For a project built around Newey, Honda and Fernando Alonso, that is a brutal reality check. WILLIAMS DRIVER MARKET . Williams are being linked with a possible Franco Colapinto return if Carlos Sainz leaves, with James Vowles potentially needing a serious replacement plan for 2027. Colapinto’s improved Alpine form has made him a very interesting option again. RACING BULLS ROW Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad were caught in team orders anger after Austria. Lawson finished ninth and Lindblad tenth, but the radio messages show there is tension inside Racing Bulls even after a double-points result. ANTONELLI PRESSURE Kimi Antonelli’s unbroadcast radio has also raised questions after Austria. He still leads the championship, but George Russell’s win has cut the gap and increased the pressure inside Mercedes.
