Mercedes have a problem they could not ignore after Barcelona. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were allowed to fight, but Lewis Hamilton was up the road taking victory for Ferrari. Now Toto Wolff has admitted Mercedes may need to look at whether free racing can continue when a rival is taking advantage. That is the title-fight pressure Hamilton creates. HAMILTON CHANGES EVERYTHING Hamilton’s Ferrari win has changed the mood of the season. Mercedes had dominated the start of 2026, but now Ferrari have momentum, Hamilton has belief, and Wolff knows exactly what Lewis can do when he smells a championship fight. If Mercedes keep letting Russell and Antonelli cost each other time, Hamilton could become the biggest winner. RUSSELL VS ANTONELLI This is where it gets uncomfortable. Kimi Antonelli leads the championship, but George Russell is not going to move aside easily. Mercedes do not want to create a number one driver too early, but if Hamilton keeps closing in, Wolff may have no choice. That could create serious tension inside the Mercedes garage. RED BULL’S MAX POWER PLAY Red Bull’s Verstappen situation has taken another wild turn. After the Mercedes 2027 offer story, the exit clause drama, and the rejected long-term contract talk, Red Bull may now consider offering Max Verstappen a stake in Racing Bulls. If true, that is not a normal contract negotiation. That is Red Bull trying to give Verstappen power no other team can offer. SAINZ WILLIAMS TIMELINE Carlos Sainz is also asking the big question at Williams. He believes the team can fight at the front in the future, but he now has to decide whether that timeline matches how long he is willing to wait. That makes Sainz another driver market name to watch. PIASTRI AND NEWEY QUESTIONS McLaren could face its own future problem if Oscar Piastri ever became part of the Red Bull conversation, while Aston Martin are still defending Adrian Newey’s AMR26 gamble despite major concerns. The 2026 development war is already becoming political, technical and personal. This is F1 news, Lewis Hamilton Ferrari title pressure, Mercedes team orders, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli tension, Max Verstappen Red Bull rumours, Carlos Sainz Williams doubts, Oscar Piastri driver market talk and Adrian Newey Aston Martin reaction.
