He believes overtaking now depends too heavily on electrical energy deployment. A driver with more battery power can accelerate past a rival instead of creating the move through braking, positioning or risk. Are the 2026 cars producing better racing, or has Formula 1 reduced the importance of driver skill? NO DRIVER TALENT? The cars remain difficult to drive, but Alonso believes the spectacle is becoming too dependent on energy management and artificial speed differences. If a driver cannot defend because the car behind has a major electrical advantage, is that genuine racing or simply the system deciding the result? FIA WING QUESTIONS The FIA is also examining rotating aerodynamic components used by Ferrari and Red Bull. The issue is whether parts move under load in a way that changes the car’s balance beyond what the rules intend. Neither team has been found guilty, but any clarification or clampdown could force design changes. VERSTAPPEN SCRUTINY Max Verstappen’s recent crashes have increased interest in Red Bull’s aerodynamic behaviour. The FIA must establish whether the movement is legal flexibility or something that could contribute to unpredictable high-speed balance. McLAREN VERSTAPPEN OBSTACLE Reports claim McLaren’s majority shareholders want Oscar Piastri’s contract honoured, potentially complicating Zak Brown’s pursuit of Verstappen. That may not mean they oppose Max. McLaren may simply need an agreement allowing Piastri to leave willingly. For now, it remains unconfirmed driver-market speculation. FERRARI PRESSURE MERCEDES Toto Wolff expects Ferrari to remain a serious threat for the rest of the season. Ferrari’s progress has changed the competitive picture and placed more pressure on Mercedes to respond. RUSSELL DEFENDS FERRARI George Russell says Ferrari made the correct decision by pitting Lewis Hamilton during the late British GP Safety Car. Russell stayed out and inherited second when the race did not restart, but Ferrari could not have known the event would finish under caution. Russell believes Ferrari’s logic was sound.
